After 25 years as a session guitarist and record producer, Alberto Lombardi fell in love with fingerstyle acoustic guitar. He has performed his arrangements both in Italy and abroad, from small clubs in New York City and London, to renowned guitar festivals held in Sarzana and Ferentino, Italy.

Alberto's arrangements are rooted in the style of the great Chet Atkins and Tommy Emmanuel but also influenced by the 1950's big band sound. His arrangements of American and Italian classics, (Georgia On My Mind, Volare) show the inventive harmonic movements from those great arrangers and composers of the times. Alberto also writes his own material, both fingerstyle instrumentals and as a singer/songwriter.

Alberto's first American CD release showcases his fingerstyle talents:

    1. Volare

    2. The Roadrunner Show

    3. Georgia On My Mind

    4. Tu Vuo Fa L'Americano

    5. Life on Mars

    6. Come Together

    7. Birds

    8. Roma Nun Fa La Stupida Stasera

    9. Almeno Tu Nell'Universo

    10. Balkan Dance

    11. My Father's Gun

    12. I Never Dreamed You'd Leave In Summer

Review: Alberto Lombardi has a roaming ear and verve in his fingers, a dangerous combination for a guitarist. As a result, "Birds" beats its completely acoustic, predominantly solo, largely instrumental path between tender and gorgeous ('Almeno Tu Nell'Universo') and whir and spin ('Balkan Dance,' done gypsy-style as a Django-Grappelli violin duet). A taste for classics compliments that technical command: Classic pop (a dream-away 'Georgia on My Mind'). Classic rock (Bowie's 'Life on Mars?,' sung as well as strung). Classic Italiano (the pendulously swinging 'Volare'), too. Meanwhile, originals like 'The Roadrunner Show' make bids to become future classics among fingerpickers with their fleet melodic whoosh. Spontaneous waterfall licks keep flowing through the Beatles' 'Come Together' as well as 'Birds,' another heated duet, but with second guitarist Tim Sparks this time. Here is a world of stately harmonic tings and percussive string thwacks. Where Hoagy Carmichael mingles with Elton John at the villa of Renato Carosone, the Neopolitan Hoagy Carmichael. Where soft glides live in perfect harmony with tempered speed. It's all the better with Lombardi's richly resonant guitar sitting only millimeters away from you and your speakers. Stefan Grossman's lifelong dedication to the acoustic art of fingerstyle guitar certifies Lombardi as the newest must-hear ace on a label already flush with aces like Rev. Gary Davis, John Renbourn, John Fahey and Grossman himself. ' Dennis Rozanski/Blues Rag

Review: Lombardi is a wonderful acoustic player who deftly handles classics like 'Volare' with a Chet Atkins flair. He also shows a sense of humor with a cover of 'The Roadrunner Show' theme, while his blistering 'Come Together' is a tour de force. Lombardi covers lots of songs you know ' and he adds something to each and every one of them. ' Vintage Guitar
